From j.hanafin at imperial.ac.uk Fri Sep 10 14:31:41 2004 From: j.hanafin at imperial.ac.uk (Hanafin, Jennifer A) Date: Fri, 10 Sep 2004 15:31:41 +0100 Subject: [ROLSS] Update to GERB status Message-ID: Dear all, Just a quick update on progress to get GERB data flowing again. The operations this week have progressed more slowly than anticipated and GERB is still in a SAFE mode. We are currently expecting to be in a position to return to NORMAL mode within the next week. Most of the issues we have encountered have been related to instrument software and operations, and should have no significant impact on science data. My apologies for the loss of data over this period, we are doing all we can to return GERB to a data collecting mode as soon as possible. The instrument has been returned to SUNBLOCK mode, and will be left there for a few days until the mirror has had a chance to run in again after a rather long spell of inactivity. Procedures at Imperial and EUMETSAT are being updated to help prevent the reoccurence of the events leading to this data loss. I will let you know when data becomes available again - we are expecting that to happen next week. Thanks for your patience and apologies for the continued delay. One of the changes we have had to make will result in a partial loss of image data from the final scan taken every day during eclipse. The change was implemented due to an instrument safety issue and this was considered to be an acceptable level of data loss. The scanning mirror is aging, which may result in a slight increase in pointing noise from this point. This should not affect the data products significantly, but if any problems are noted, do let us know.
